Urban Partners joined Clark Construction and the architectural team of mOrphosis and Gruen Associates to win a design competition in November 2001 for the new Caltrans District 7 Headquarters in the Los Angeles Civic Center.
Development consists of a 750,000 square foot office building and four levels of subterranean parking. World-class design and sustainability features, including the largest vertical photovoltaic array in North America and a major public art installation by Keith Sonnier, have made the building an instant icon.
The development team provided comprehensive design/build services for a fixed price of $171 million. Design and construction were completed under budget and on schedule in less than 30 months.
The project has won numerous design and construction awards, including “Building Team of the Year” from the Los Angeles Chapter of American Institute of Architects, and has been hailed as the “fastest, most affordable, most innovative public building” in California history.
